Last season of "Babylon Berlin": Filming for the big showdown has started

Filming for the final season of the hit series "Babylon Berlin" has begun. The story takes place after Hitler's appointment as Chancellor.
Filming for the fifth and final season of "Babylon Berlin" has started. The production company Beta Film announced that the final eight episodes of the internationally successful German series are currently being filmed in Berlin. The directing trio Henk Handloegten (56), Achim von Borries (56) and Tom Tykwer (59) are once again in charge of the big showdown.
This is what the final season is aboutThe plot of the final season, which is based on Volker Kutscher's fifth novel "Märzgefallene", begins on January 30, 1933 - the day Adolf Hitler was appointed Chancellor. In the following five weeks until the Reichstag elections on March 5, 1933, events in Germany unfold rapidly. This decisive phase of German history forms the historical framework for the final investigation of the main characters Gereon Rath (Volker Bruch, 44) and Charlotte Ritter (Liv Lisa Fries, 34).
Charlotte wants to solve a series of murders of former front-line soldiers. There are increasing signs that there is a direct connection to the past of her colleague Gereon, who has gone into hiding - and to that of the new Reich Chancellor.
A final that "the fans deserve""'Babylon Berlin V' is going to be phenomenal. We are working non-stop to make the new season as spectacular as possible in terms of the look, the locations and one of the most important components of the series: the music," the three directors explain in a joint statement. The aim of the season is to "take a close look at the five weeks at the beginning of 1933 that turned the country upside down" and thus offer a finale "that the series and, above all, its fans deserve."

The directors explained to "The Hollywood Reporter" that they particularly wanted to do away with the cliché "that all Germans couldn't wait to become Nazis. That's not true, in reality society was torn apart," Tykwer stressed. "Every character [in the series] will have to take a stand."
The first image from the fifth season was also released along with the announcement. It shows the silhouette of Volker Bruch in his role as investigator Gereon Rath, who is only a shadow in front of a bright beam of light - thus giving a glimpse of the mysterious atmosphere of the last episodes.
"Babylon Berlin" has been running for seven years"Babylon Berlin" has enjoyed great national and international success since its premiere in 2017: with 100 million streams in the ARD media library alone, it is one of the most successful German productions ever and has been sold to 140 countries.
After the fourth season, which was filmed in 2021, the future of the award-winning series was in jeopardy because Sky Deutschland had withdrawn from the project. ARD Degeto ultimately commissioned the finale without the involvement of the pay-TV broadcaster. It is not yet known when the last episodes will be broadcast.
